The Valada Biennial is Flávia Germano Barra‘s artistic project and will take place in Valada, with Valada and through Valada during the last weekend of May. The exhibition spaces reflect this gesture: a private courtyard that opens up, the waiting room of the doctor’s surgery, Rodolfo’s garage, the municipal market, the tourist office, the primary school, the kiosk and the neighborhood café. Spaces that were not designed to be exhibited, but which become possible places, crossed by the encounter between art and territory.
The Valada Biennial is a co-production between the Biennial and BASE – Escola de Arte, curated by Andreia César (Sociedade de Instrução Guilherme Cossoul) and Sandrine Llouquet (O Gabinete de Madame Thao), with production support from Sociedade de Instrução Guilherme Cossul, O Gabinete de Madame Thao, Miguel Castro Art Adviser and Galeria Sá́ da Costa. During the Biennale, these partners will award the prizes for the BASE artist residency, which include solo exhibitions, a group exhibition and acquisitions of works.
