entre | tempo, a solo exhibition by Teresa Sanches de Baêna
🗓 28 March – 17 April
Opening: Saturday, 28 March, 6–8 pm
In entre | tempo, Teresa Sanches de Baêna treats the exhibition space less as a container than as a psychological chamber: a place of waiting, where time loosens and memory begins to behave strangely. The room feels like an extension of an interior landscape, holding fragments of childhood, half-formed narratives, and gestures repeated until they sediment into traces of lived experience.
Her practice moves along the fault line between inside and outside. The boundary between what happened and what was feared, desired, or projected becomes porous.
Underlying the work is the residue of a moral framework built on stark oppositions: good and evil, reward and punishment… Such binaries, amplified by the archetypes of popular animation from the 1980s and 1990s, offer clear scripts for how to be. Identity, within this structure, is measured against expectation; the self is split between what it is and what it has been told it should become. The tension is quiet but persistent.
Against this, the slower temporalities found in anime and manga suggest another rhythm. Here, conflict turns inward. Time stretches. Ambiguity is not corrected but endured. Silence carries weight; doubt becomes generative. It is within this shift that entre | tempo locates its force, opening a space where perception falters, recalibrates, and perhaps begins again.
